Want to join our family and are you motivated by hands-on vessel operations, technical responsibility, and the opportunity to make a real impact?
Want to make a difference in technical vessel operations?
Rederiet Stenersen is a Bergen-based, family-owned shipping company with strong roots in Norwegian maritime tradition and a long-standing presence in the tanker market. The company operates a modern fleet of 18 product tankers, transporting liquid cargo under demanding conditions worldwide.
With a strong focus on quality, safety, reliability and continuous improvement, Stenersen combines decades of shipping experience with a forward-looking approach to technology, sustainability and operational excellence. The company is also investing in the future, with six newbuildings scheduled for delivery, further strengthening its fleet and market position.
Technical Superintendent
This is an excellent career opportunity for someone who wants to play an important role in supporting modern vessels and ensuring safe, reliable and efficient technical operations.
As Technical Superintendent, you will be the primary technical link between the vessels, shore management, suppliers, shipyards, class societies and other relevant stakeholders. You will be responsible for supporting an appointed portfolio of vessels and ensuring that technical performance, maintenance, repairs and compliance are followed up in a professional and hands-on manner.
Main responsibilities and tasks
You will be responsible for the technical follow-up of an appointed portfolio of vessels, ensuring that they are operated and maintained in accordance with company standards, class requirements, flag state regulations, customer expectations and relevant industry requirements.
You will follow up planned maintenance, technical performance, repairs, modifications, dry-dockings and yard stays. This includes planning, budgeting, coordination, execution and follow-up of technical activities in close cooperation with the vessels and shore organization.
You will monitor the vessels’ technical condition and ensure that maintenance systems, technical documentation, certificates and vessel databases are kept updated with accurate and relevant information.
As the Owner’s technical representative, you will follow up suppliers, service engineers, yards, class societies and other external partners. You will also contribute to inspections, audits and technical evaluations when required.
You will support the vessels with technical advice and operational guidance, including troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, energy efficiency, spare parts management and improvement initiatives.
An important part of the role will be to contribute to the continuous improvement of the company’s management systems, technical standards, safety performance, environmental performance and operational reliability.
As Technical Superintendent, you will maintain active and regular communication with the vessels’ management teams. Together with frequent presence on board, this will help build strong, trust-based and positive relationships between sea and shore.
Personal abilities
You will work closely with vessel management, shore management, suppliers, shipyards and other collaboration partners. The position therefore requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build solid, long-term relationships.
We are looking for someone who is structured, proactive, solution-oriented and technically strong. You enjoy being close to the operation, taking responsibility and following tasks through from planning to completion.
You communicate well, create trust and contribute to a positive and cooperative working environment. You have a hands-on approach and a genuine interest in developing people, vessels and technical performance.
Education and background
Relevant maritime or technical education is required.
Experience from a similar position within ship management, project management, tanker operations or technical vessel follow-up will be considered an advantage.
Knowledge of planned maintenance systems, class and flag requirements, dry-docking, technical inspections, budgeting and tanker operations will also be an advantage.
We can offer
By becoming part of the Stenersen family, you will join a working environment deeply founded on the principle of taking care of each other. The culture is built on being hands-on, actively involved and committed to achieving the best possible results together.
At Stenersen, the values are:
Hands-on – Caring – Responsible
You will be given a broad range of responsibilities and be involved in a variety of challenging and meaningful tasks. You will work closely with both vessels and the shore organization, and you will have the opportunity to make a real contribution to safe, reliable and efficient vessel operations.
You will become part of a long-term, family-owned company with short decision lines, strong values and a genuine commitment to vessels and colleagues at sea and on shore.
The position reports to the Technical Manager and will be part of the technical department.
The physical workplace is in Bergen. Travel must be expected. The Technical Superintendent will have a high degree of flexibility in planning and managing their own travel schedule.
